Welcome to Hooked On Phonics Learn to Read.

Today I'm going to show you how to use this program.

Not only is it easy to use, but you're going to have a lot of fun as you learn how to read.

What is phonics?

Phonics is a method of teaching reading based on sounding out letters to read words.

Let's say that you learn the letter I makes the /ɪ/ sound and the letter T makes the /t/ sound and when you read these sounds together, /ɪ/ /t/, you have /ɪt/.

Get out your workbook and your DVD.

First, your child will learn the sounds of the new lesson.

Start with the animated introduction to the lesson on the DVD and then move onto the workbook.

You can do this in the living room, the dining room, in the kitchen, wherever it's convenient for you.

There will be instructions all along the way that will tell your child when to listen, when to read along, and when to repeat the sounds and words.

The DVD will introduce many new sounds and words that you'll learn in the workbook.

Once you've watched the video introduction, head to the workbook.

On the first page of the workbook, your child will read the words that were introduced on the DVD.

Go to the next page and practice reading all the new words you've just learned.

Once you've finished with the learn and practice pages, your child is now ready to read a short story.
